Happy Halloween, do you know what your grandparents are up to? We will never look at retirement communities the same again after watching R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour: “The Grampire Series” on The Hub.
Thanks to MommyParties my daughter was provided a little theme at her recent sleepover. GRAMPIRES, the series on the Hub is a new “scary” show that is geared toward 7 to 11 year olds I would say. My husband and I watched it with the girls as well. The consensus was that if Mom would stop screaming it really would not have been that scary! I do not like suspense at any level so this show allowed me a few mild screeches, some to just set the mood for the girls.
We started our viewing party by giving each girl a t-shirt and Vampire Teeth.
They all enjoyed showing off their new dental wear.
I then made my newly transformed vampires race to eat the blood, or red jello! No hands girls just dig into your prey.
From this photo we can see one vampire was cheating. Hmm can’t remember if she won that night!!
The girls had fun doing this activity, I tried to get my husband to participate but he declined the invite.
We all then settled in our dark basement with our T-shirts, candy and popcorn to watch two episodes of the Grampires. Basically this series is about two kids who go visit their grandfather in his new retirement community to find out that he has transformed into a Vampire. But not a vampire that hurts people just eats rats. The two episodes were about how Grampire was saving his grand kids from the mean old vampires in the community. (We are talking old and some in wheel chairs)
They stayed interested in the two episodes but like we mentioned before, they did not say they were scared. It was suggested by these ladies that my 6 year old did not watch it. These budding movie critics said they did not like the coloring used in the shooting of the series and it was too dull. When asked if they were interested in seeing the third episode (one we did not have0 to see what will happen no one seemed to excited.
My husband and I were very interested in finding out what will happen and we will look it up on Hub next movie night! My husband agreed that is was a fun concept and maybe the characters will get further developed as the story line goes on. He was not sure how the plot would develop, since all but 2 vampires were vaporized in episode 2. (Sorry for the spoiler) A fun series to watch this Halloween season but not sure there is much interest in exploring it further.
I am sure this would appeal more to a male crowd that was interested in sci fi and mystery. I am going to give the DVD to my neighbor who has an 11 year old boy and see his reaction!!
UPDATE: my hubby watched this with my boys ages 9 and 6 and they both liked it. Found them watching it on HUB the next day. My husband’s comment the second time around was Christopher Lloyd must be hurting for money!!
Close to Home was provided the DVD and t-shirts for my MommyParty from MomSelect. All opinions expressed were our own.
