Double Chocolate Peanut Butter Cereal Mix–or Mickey Ears

Who said you can not have chocolate for breakfast? Thanks to the folks at Plateful Co-op, I was provided a free box of Dark Chocolate MultiGrain Cheerios to try and facilitate this review. While I enjoyed them for breakfast, at 9 grams of sugar, I knew I had to make something else with them. I made Double Chocolate Peanut Butter Cereal Mix for fun Valentine’s Day treat. It is super easy to make and tastes even better. Since we love some Disney Parties, we thought we would celebrate.

My family loves Trash or Muddy Buddy’s, not sure what you call them at your house, so I adapted the recipe to include the Dark Chocolate MultiGrain Cheerios.

Ok they were great for breakfast with some fresh strawberries, but I couldn’t stop there. I decided to make a peanut butter chocolate cereal crunch that would be a fun Valentine’s Day treat as well after school snack.

This cereal snack mix starts with the yummy Multi Grain Cheerios Dark Chocolate Crunch. You can see all the different flavors already in this mix before we even start!

Go ahead and melt all the chocolate and peanut butter together in the microwave. It happens quickly so don’t walk away and be sure and check on it every 30 seconds for a quick stir. I have burnt chocolate before and it is not pretty and a big waste of ingredients.cheerio snack mix

Mix everything together just be careful when you do so you don’t crush all the Cheerios.

Now it is time for my favorite part. Place all the chocolate covered Cheerios, (this is where we get the double chocolate crunch part) into a ziplock bag and add the powdered sugar. Shake until it all coated. Add M &M’s now if you wish, or even some extra dry roasted peanuts would be great. Even better maybe some chocolate peanut M & M’s.

Lay it out on a piece of wax paper and allow it to cool completely. It is hard to resist at this point. I also break up any larger pieces at this time.

Wish I had some more left over, this stuff never lasts and I only made a small amount to test for this recipe.

Mickey Mouse Ears Snack

I could not resist once I spent a few minutes really  looking at this tasty cereal mix  waiting for it to cool. Don’t you think that they sort of remind you of Mickey Mouse ears? Maybe it is because I am getting ready for our DisneySide Party and I have Disney on the brain. What do you think??

  1. Great idea! We love puppy chow/muddy buddies/etc. I’ve added Cheerios before, but never thought about using it in the place of the Chex/Crispix. Hmmm, now I want some and our box of Chocolate Cheerios is almost gone. Guess I’ll have to buy more!
