My daughter took a sewing class with her Girl Scouts troop and ever since I will find her in front of my machine trying to make something. For the most part she is pretty good at sewing but just needs to be reminded to slow down. I know something is going on when I hear the fast pace of the machine two floors below. This holiday season she may find herself knee-deep in new and easy sewing projects thanks to a new book “Simple Sewing , 30 fast and Easy projects for Beginners” by Katie Lewis.
I love that it starts with great photos of different techniques, sewing supplies, and stitches which is even a good reminder for the semi experienced who gets on the sewing machine ever so often. The projects are great and don’t require much fabric so you wont be spending too much money on a ruined project.
There are several easy sewing projects in this Simple Sewing Book that would make great DIY Christmas gifts that even kids can make. There are templates for bibs, bows and pin cushions to name a few. Your beginner can even sew Christmas stockings for the family or pet. I think we might make some Christmas stocking for the family we adopted this year.
My daughter was so excited to try one of the projects, we agreed on making holiday place mats, reversible no doubt.
I let her be at the fabric store and she picked out and did the measurements in her head for 6 place mats.
Here she is busily working on her easy sewing projects. Well they are not all the same size but don’t they look cute all rolled up and in a ribbon a perfect “early christmas” gift for mom.
This is the perfect book to teach kids how to sew or even adults. The entire book is visually appealing which makes it easy to learn.
