Valentines Day Ideas: Recipe and Craft Round Up

I forget how much I love Valentine’s Day now that I have children, until I start cooking up treats. I am not that creative when it comes to the Valentines for the class, especially since I have 3 kids and 20 plus students in each class.  That is a lot of homemade Valentine Day cards.

I thought I would share some of Close to Home’s favorite Valentines Day  Ideas both crafts and recipes from over the years.  Maybe you will find a new family favorite this year.  Plus link up any of your favorite Valentine’s Day CRAFTS or Valentine’s Day RECIPES below.

Old World Gourmet Mixes Great for Valentine’s Day or Hostess Gifts

Not sure what to get your Valentine this year?  Or maybe looking for a fun and different hostess gift for a party?  While giving a bottle of wine is the easy way to go, how about mixing things up with these fun Vino Freeze Mixes.  Definitely pair it with a bottle of wine, just don’t buy a high end bottle:)

We received some great flavors from OWG (Old World Gourmet) brands to try out.  Since it is cold outside we thought we would try the Sangria first, but not freeze it.  The bottle of wine we opened was not great so this is the perfect thing to do with it…no need to throw it out, just remake it.

Our mix came with two packages of mix which was perfect for testing purposes.  We made a half of bottle of Sangria and saved the rest for the bread mix below.  It is definitely sweet and I might even add more water or wine to the mix.  A friend who has tried these before suggested the frozen version is much better.

I know your sweetheart will be thrilled to receive a glass of Sangria as a surprise.  So Treat your sweet with a glass of sangria; made without any effort. They come in multiple flavors so you are sure to find one to fit your gift recipients tastes.  (Pomegranate martini, Bellini’s to name a few)

I have tried beer bread before so I was excited to see they also made wine bread.  Using the rest of the wine we were about to throw away, I made a package of VINO BY THE SLICE Bread mix.  It retails for $10 so it is a great compliment to a bottle of wine.

Love the red color, obviously this would not be the case using white wine!!  We loved it with a slice of sharp cheese and also made it into garlic bread for dinner the next night.  Fun and super easy way to have fresh bread on your table.

Definitely worth looking at Vino Freeze Mixes for your next holiday or gift need. A fun way to tell someone you are thinking of them.  Check them out Old World Gourmet on Twitter or Facebook too.  You can buy some of Old World Gourmet products  HERE.

A SOUPER Valentine’s Day Gift for Teachers

I am always trying to come up with something thoughtful for teachers gifts since they work so hard.  I also like to make things that don’t necessarily need to be eaten within a few days.  They get enough of those types of gifts.  A few years ago we did these Cookies in a Jar which I think went over well.  Here is a Souper Valentine’s Day gift for teachers or neighbors.

Tri-Colored Rolled Heart Cookies

It is tough coming up with different heart shaped cookie options.  While browsing our grocery store recently I saw a tri-colored heart shaped cookie.
I thought I will try and make this at home.

SImply use your favorite sugar cookie dough recipe.  I use the Betty-Crocker packaged mix for mine.

Divide the dough into 3 bowls.  Color the dough with food coloring using 3 different colors.   I kept one plain.

Roll the your chosen inside/middle color into a log.

Roll out the 2nd color into a square the same length as your roll and then roll it around your first color.

Repeat with the 3rd color and seal the ends by pinching the dough.

Make an indentation into the dough along one entire side creating a heart shaped log.

Cut into 1/4 -1/2 inch slices.  For best results use a serrated knife.

Lay onto cookie sheet and follow baking directions of the recipe.

Here they are  simple but fun.

How do you eat your popcorn?

I had all intention of making a recipe to celebrate National Popcorn Day.  However, yesterday was a bit crazy and never got around to it.  I did particpate in a blog networking meeting where I met with three wonderful women in my area whom provided great inspiration and ideas to improve our blogs.  Stay tuned, I will be introducing them to you all in the coming posts.

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, I thought I would first repost this PopcornTreat we made for our kids teachers last year.  It was a big hit, super easy and inexpensive.  All the things I love.

Here are some Pinterests  I found about popcorn.  So grab your poppers or microwave bags and have a bite of popcorn in Celebration of this day!!

Let me know what is your favorite way to eat popcorn?
